SANParks
SANParks (South African National Parks) is the custodian of the natural resources within the National Parks of South Africa. The parks represent some of South Africa’s most important eco-tourism destinations and SANParks is one of the world’s leading conservation and scientific research bodies and a leading proponent of maintaining the indigenous natural environment. The following are the most important organisations involved in nature conservation locally and internationally.
 

The World Conservation Union (IUCN)
The International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) has members in over 140 countries and aims to apply sound ecosystem management procedures throughout the world. They have numerous specialist groups that target families of species as well as ecosystem types. www.iucn.org

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora (CITES)
CITES works for the survival of global species by ensuring that trade in them or their products will not result in their being negatively affected. They are signatories to an international agreement between most countries that enforces legislation, hand-in-hand with many other organisations. www.cites.org

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS)
Based at the Bronx Zoo, New York, this organisation aims to save wildlife and their habitats throughout the world. They have numerous international programmes conducting scientific research projects. www.wcs.org

The Wildlife & Environment Society of South Africa
This organisation promotes public participation in the care of our country's natural resources. www.wildlifesociety.org.za

The Endangered Wildlife Trust
The EWT promotes the protection of threatened species and ecosystems through species-based working groups that initiate action programmes. www.ewt.org.za

Predator Conservation Trust 
This highly effective Namibian-based organisation aims to ensure the long-term survival of Namibia's free-ranging large carnivores. It conducts field research and educates local farming and subsistence communities on carnivores. www.predatorconservation.com

Blouberg Conservation Project (Bloucon)
The aim of this award-winning organisation is conserve the Blouberg mountain range area of the Limpopo Province, South Africa. They use environmental education, community-based conservation and research projects, and their main concern at present is the preservation of vultures, other raptors, reptiles and primates.
